Hawk
Golden Settlement, Farms
[talking before getting the upgrade]
Honeycomb: Hawk. The aphids are still the same as last year!
Hawk: Indeed, professor. It seems our trip won't bear fruit in the end.
Honeycomb: The Queen keeps saying I should come here, but every time I do I lose precious research time!
Honeycomb: HACK COUGH COUGH!!
(minibubble) Hawk: Deep breaths, professor.
[after getting offering from Mayor]
Honeycomb: Ahem! One moment, young lady!
Vi: Huh? What's your deal?
Honeycomb: That boomerang you have there, where did you find it?
Vi: ...I uh, I bought it?
Honeycomb: YEAH, RIGHT! YOU STOLE MY AUTOMATED DRONE BOOMERANG PROTOTYPE DIDN'T YOU, YOU THIEF!?
Honeycomb: COUGH COUGH HACK COFF!
Leif: Vi, look what you've done.
Kabbu: One moment, please! Vi is no thief. There must be a misunderstanding!
Honeycomb: Don't stick your horn where you ain't asked, you green stinkbug!
Vi: I didn't steal anything, okay? I bought it in the Ant Kingdom!
Hawk: Professor, please watch your temper. Doesn't she seem to have mastered the A.D.B.P. quite well? She could be useful.
Honeycomb: Useful!? How could this... Wait. Yes, I'm a genius!
Honeycomb: Listen up, you rascal. You can keep that prototype.
Honeycomb: ...If you help us gather data and with some upgrade testing. You can't say no!
Vi: This is what I get for buying from Shades… Fine. Upgrades sound cool, anyways!
Honeycomb: Hawk! Give her prototype the Halt Upgrade!
Hawk: Of course, professor.
Hawk: This will take just a moment.
Textbox: Your Beemerang has been upgraded!
Textbox: Vi can now use the Hurricane Toss skill in battle!
Hawk: Professor, I've successfully upgraded the A.D.B.P.
Leif: Doesn't seem like you did anything.
Honeycomb: Hmph! As if you'd know real science! The Halt Upgrade allows you to hold the prototype after you throw it!
Leif: Do physics work that way?
Vi: Shush, Leif. That's awesome!
Honeycomb: Listen up! You just hold |button,5| after you toss it! That will hold the prototype in place until you release |button,5|.
Honeycomb: The kinetic energy generated by the Halt should be able to spin things around.
Leif: That is literally impossible.
Hawk: In any case, we hope you'll aid with our research when you can.
Hawk: For example, why not test the halt on that crank over there?
Hawk: If you have forgotten how to perform the Halt, all you have to do is hold |button,5| after a throw.
[Spin Crank]
Hawk: Please excuse the professor's behavior. She only wants the best for her research items.
Hawk: Take good care of that prototype.
Lost Sands, Rock Formation
Hawk: My research points to a relic being in the area, but I've hit a dead end.
Hawk: Could there be a path I haven't noticed yet?
[talk after solving puzzle]
Hawk: ...! Incredible. Team Snakemouth, this was your doing?
Vi: Yup! All us!
(minibubble) Leif: You did nothing...
Hawk: I simply must see what's at the top. I'll see you there!
[pick up medal]
Hawk: This is it. The Lost Tardigrade. Legends say these bugs can live for countless generations.
Hawk: Not that I've ever seen one…
Vi: Weird place to put a statue, right?
Kabbu: Maybe this place looked much different, and only the relic withstood the test of time…
Vi: Hey! At least we found something we can use here!
Hawk: A Medal, huh?
Hawk: So this was a Medal covered in dust... Fascinating. I'll have to write up a hefty report.
Kabbu: Should we uh, hand it over?
(minibubble) Vi: No way!
Hawk: Mmmmm. Would you mind testing its properties on the field? I don't really mind if you keep it.
Hawk: I've got the data I wanted already.
Leif: Cool. Thanks, Hawk.
[If you haven’t done the other desert stuff with him]
Hawk: Once I am done with my research in the desert, I shall head back to the Hive.
Hawk: May we meet again.
[if this is the last of the desert stuff with him]
Hawk: Well, that about wraps it up for me. I'll head back to the Hive.
Hawk: Let's meet again.
Lost Sands, Roach Village
[ch4]
Leif: This statue seems eerily familiar. A Roach?
Hawk: Oh, it's you.
Hawk: That's correct. It's most likely a statue of the Roach village founder.
Kabbu: That's right! We saw some Roach ruins in Snakemouth too.
Hawk: What!?
Vi: Yeah. It was all around where we found the artifact!
Hawk: Incredible. This is information you should've shared right away.v
Hawk: I guess that explains why this key was here…
Leif: That key, could it be for the Sand Castle?
Hawk: Don't ask me. But Roaches and artifacts often pop up together.
Hawk: Just what made them disappear? This is what I want to know.
Hawk: All the damage you see is simply a result of the passage of time. A few sandstorms here and there roughed up the place, but…
Hawk: With the Oasis so close by, I find little reason this place would be abandoned. Most curious…
Vi: Uh huh. Hey, you wouldn't mind giving that to us, right? We really need it!
Hawk: You're asking me to hand you over a priceless historical relic?
Kabbu: P-Please? We'll return it…
Hawk: ...Well, sure. If it really leads to the artifact, it'll give my research a boost.
Leif: Thanks, Hawk.
Hawk: Do get back to me with any developments.
[if you haven’t done the tardigrade idol stuff]
Hawk: I'll head back to Professor Honeycomb's lab when I'm done with another desert errand.
Hawk: Stay safe. Maybe I'll see you around.
Kabbu: I'm sure we will. Safe travels, Hawk.
[if you’ve done the tardigrade idol stuff]
Hawk: I'll head back to Professor Honeycomb's lab to compile my findings.
Hawk: If you ever drop by, please share what you found with the key with me.
Kabbu: Will do. Safe travels, Hawk.
Hive, Honeycomb’s Lab
Hawk: Thank you for your help at the desert.
Vi: No problem! Now for th-
Kabbu: It was nothing special, Hawk. Just doing our best.
(minibubble) Vi: ...
Hawk: I have a lot of data to analyze about the Roaches and the old world now.
Hawk: But the professor is already looking into something else.
Leif: What would it be?
Hawk: Something on those plant creatures in Golden Hills, the Chompers.
Hawk: They reproduce quickly through seeds. But what if we could somehow harness that seed without it hatching?
Hawk: They seem to sprout instantly when touching a hard surface, but it should be possible to extract them if treated carefully.
Leif: Good luck with that. We wouldn't know where to start looking.
Hawk: If you manage to find one, please bring it here. Although the professor's been trying her whole life…
Hawk: Is such a seed truly hiding in the Golden Path...?
Kabbu: We will keep it in mind, Hawk. Keep up the good work!
[talk again]
Hawk: Chompers seem to have a place where they congregate hidden somewhere in the hills.
Hawk: We haven't been able to explore it since they are so vicious, but maybe you'd have better luck.
[talk with chomper seed]
Hawk: ...! That's…
Hawk: You must show it to the professor right away!
[give chomper seed, Hawk back]
Honeycomb: As I thought! That's a Chomper Seed!
Kabbu: Indeed. It was left behind by a Mother Chomper…
Honeycomb: Fascinating! Do you know how uncommon it is for seeds to not bloom immediately?
Honeycomb: Hawk! HAWK! Come here! Quick!
Hawk: Have I heard correctly? You actually found an unhatched Chomper Seed...?
Honeycomb: Indeed! With this, maybe…
Honeycomb: Yes, YES! Maybe we can make it work!
Vi: What? What will work?
Honeycomb: Shut it and watch! Come here!
Honeycomb: I've been preparing this for YEARS!
Honeycomb: In front of you, you see what I call a "Chomper VAT"!
Leif: That's just a huge chunk of glass.
Honeycomb: Hush! This place is just a compact environment where Chompers thrive.
Honeycomb: With this, we can plant that seed right here in the lab.
Kabbu: ...So you wish for a pet Chomper?
Honeycomb: Pet?! I don't have time for that! This is SCIENCE!
Hawk: If we can somehow study how the Chompers are born and their lifestyles outside of chomping bugs…
Hawk: It would help us understand them more, and maybe even pacify them in the future.
Vi: Sure...I really don't get how, though. Is it worth it?
Honeycomb: Just getting them to stop attacking travelers is a huge boon to bugdom!
Hawk: We can't study them without great risks. But here, we can observe them easily.
Leif: We do find Chompers cute. Here's hoping this works.
Honeycomb: That's what I like to hear! It's the moment of truth!
Honeycomb: Success! It lives... IT LIVES!
(minibubble) Leif: Aw...such a cutie.
Kabbu: I-Impressive! This Chomper looks a bit different though doesn't it?
Hawk: Hm. My guess is that this is…
Hawk: You said that you got this seed from a Mother Chomper?
Vi: Yeah. It was a super big, super strong mama Chomper!
Honeycomb: I can only assume that this small one was supposed to be the next in line for that position!
Hawk: Chompers do have a weird hierarchy system, but it isn't too far apart from how us bugs do it.
Hawk: They have their Mother, we have our Queen.
Kabbu: Maybe it's because she is still young, but she seems very peaceful.
Honeycomb: Hm...I suppose there is some sort of imprinting in this Chomper too. It doesn't seem like it will turn violent.
Honeycomb: You brought the seed here. Would you care to name it?
Leif: Really? Can we?
Hawk: It's only fair. We owe this incredible specimen to you.
Honeycomb: I'm bad with names, anyways...Go on! Name it!
Honeycomb: |string,9|? Are you sure?
Honeycomb: Very well! Now I have another favor to ask you…
Vi: Ugh. You're gonna have to start paying!
Honeycomb: This task IS the payment!
Honeycomb: I want you to go out in the field with this Chomper and gather data on their behaviors.
Vi: How's that a reward!? You want us to babysit a dangerous MONSTER!
Leif: ...Don't call it a monster.
Hawk: She seems to have taken a liking to you three, and should be mostly harmless.
Hawk: Maybe if she lives alongside bugs, she could grow to become a peaceful Mother Chomper.
Leif: We don't even care if you don't agree, Vi. We're doing it. It's too cute to leave here.
Vi: ...Fine. I guess it IS a bit cute!
Kabbu: Isn't it!? I cannot wait to share stories with it!
Honeycomb: It's settled! Come on over and take her out for a walk when you can.
Honeycomb: Just bring her back into the VAT whenever, too.
Kabbu: Count on us, Professor. We will ensure a bright future for this Chomper!
Hawk: Treat |string,9| carefully… It's quickly earned my love.
Hawk: |string,9| seems to really have taken a liking to you. Please watch over her.
Hawk: If you're interested, I can change the name that you call her by. Would you like to change it?
Textbox: Yes
No
Hawk: Alright. Take care of her.
Ant Palace, Bridge
[Ending]
[haven’t finished Leif’s Request]
Hawk: The Bee Kingdom...all kingdoms owe you. Please accept my humble thanks.
[finished Leif’s Request]
Hawk: All kingdoms...and my family are safe thanks to you. Words aren't enough.
Npc Spies
[Golden Settlement, Farms]
Vi: Woah, that bee is really cool!
Leif: That's a Moth, Vi.
Vi: N-No way! Although I guess that explains it…
Kabbu: Don't worry Vi, you are plenty cool yourself!
Vi: Flattery will get you everywhere!
[Farms, after getting offering from Mayor]
Vi: I hate to admit it...but Hawk looks really cool!
Leif: A Moth born with those colors, working with a bee... Life really is strange.
Kabbu: He's even a bit similar to you, isn't he, Leif?
Leif: Smart and handsome... Yes, we can see the resemblance.
Vi: Ugh. Can't you take a compliment like a normal bug!?
[Lost Sands, Rock Formation, before solving puzzle]
Vi: Hawk seems uh...stumped.
Kabbu: Understandably. There really seems no way to climb up.
Leif: Hmm. If we get creative, there's gotta be a way...
[Lost Sands, Rock Formation, solved puzzle]
Kabbu: Alright! Let us climb to the top!
[Lost Sands, Roach Village]
Vi: Hey, it's Hawk!
Leif: Let's see what he's up to. Maybe he's got a lead on the keys.
[Hive, Honeycomb’s Lab]
Leif: There's something about Hawk we just can't describe…
Vi: Really? He's just a normal dude to me!
Kabbu: As normal as a scientist Moth working in a Beehive can be…
Leif: It must be our imagination...
